Promotions

We use the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) belt system for those BJJ students who train in the gi. While there are many substantive, training time and intensity, and character criteria to be considered, generally speaking, students should expect to spend at least two years at each major adult belt (white, blue, purple, and brown) before obtaining a black belt.

While promotions will always be at the professor's discretion, more detailed formal promotion criteria will be developed and made available to students so they will know the expectations.

Promotions will usually take place every six months, in June and December of each year.
